SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 552
	WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is pleased to recognize 
noted physician and humanitarian Dr. Joseph Denton Harris IV, 
who has been selected for the American Heart Association's 
23rd Annual J. C. Crager Award, which is being presented to him
at the association's gala on April 8, 2005; and
	WHEREAS, Named for J. C. Crager, a cardiologist and 
American Heart Association volunteer and president, the award 
is presented to a person who has made exceptional contributions 
to the betterment of Beaumont through his or her professional and
community service; and
	WHEREAS, A native of Dayton, Ohio, Dr. Harris earned an 
undergraduate degree from Rice University and a medical degree 
from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at 
Dallas; he completed an internship with Parkland Memorial 
Hospital in Dallas, and he was resident in general surgery and
later chief resident of urology at The University of Texas 
Medical School at Houston; and
	WHEREAS, He moved to Beaumont in 1980 and began a private 
urology practice; he also began serving as chief of surgery and 
chief of staff at Christus Saint Elizabeth Hospital and chief of
staff at Baptist Hospital; and
	WHEREAS, A renowned urology specialist, Dr. Harris is the 
author and co-author of a number of articles in such medical 
publications as Urology, Investigative Urology, Journal of 
Urology, and Radiologic Clinics of North America; he is a member 


of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the American 
Medical Association, the American Urological Association, and 
the Texas Urological Society; and
	WHEREAS, A highly respected medical professional and 
leading Beaumont citizen, Dr. Harris has played a major role in
raising the standards of health care and improving the lives of
the citizens in his community; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
79th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Joseph Denton Harris IV for
his exceptional achievements and extend to him congratulations
on earning the American Heart Association's 23rd Annual 
J. C. Crager Award; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
