SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 568
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Wood Farm, which has been selected as a 150-year honoree by the Family Land Heritage Program; and WHEREAS, The Family Land Heritage Program is administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture; the program honors farms and ranches that have been in continuous agricultural operation by the same family for 100 years or more; in 2000, the program began recognizing designations for 150 years and 200 years of operation; and WHEREAS, Wood Farm was settled in 1853 by the Wood brothers, who had come to Texas from Norfolk, Virginia; the Wood family still owns and operates the farm; and WHEREAS, A variety of crops, including oats, cotton, watermelon, peaches, peas, sugar cane, and sweet potatoes, have been cultivated on Wood Farm; cattle have also been raised on the farm from the time it was settled; and WHEREAS, Today Wood Farm produces hay and Brangus cattle; Dr. Bruce Wood and his wife, Susie, acquired 47 acres of the original land in 2000; Dr. Wood's nephew, Dan Wood, and his wife, Laura, now live on the farm; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby commend the Wood family for their exemplary stewardship of Wood Farm and congratulate them on the designation of Wood Farm as a 150-year honoree by the Family Land Heritage Program; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the Wood family as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
