SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 574
In Memory
of
Minerva Barnard Leal
WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the citizens of
Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Minerva Barnard Leal,
who died March 14, 2005, at the age of 87; and
WHEREAS, Minerva Barnard was born in Corpus Christi on
December 27, 1917, to Juan G. and Maria Salinas Barnard, and
she lived in Corpus Christi all of her life; she was preceded
in death by her husband, Onofre "Frank" Leal; and
WHEREAS, She graduated from Incarnate Word Academy and
attended Del Mar College; a longtime Nueces County employee,
she worked for three years in the tax collector's office and
for 45 years in the county clerk's office, where she was chief
deputy county clerk; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, she was active in numerous
community organizations; she served as president of the
Incarnate Word Academy Alumni Association and as president
of the American Business Women's Association; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, she was a member of
Corpus Christi Cathedral and served on the parish council; she
was a member of the Sacred Heart Council of Catholic Daughters;
and
WHEREAS, Noted for her charm, warmth, and generosity,
Minerva Leal enriched the lives of all who knew her, and her
enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest was an inspiration
to others; and
WHEREAS, Minerva was a devoted mother and grandmother,
and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever
by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to
the bereaved family of Minerva Barnard Leal: her son,
Juan Onofre Leal; her daughters, Norma Leal Dishman,
Sylvia Leal Ybarra, and Minerva Leal-Gaytan; and her
11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and
great-great-grandchild; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for the members of her family as an expression of deepest
sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate
adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Minerva Leal.
