SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 586
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Medical Center of Lewisville and to express
appreciation to its volunteer staff for their many contributions
to the health and well-being of the people of Lewisville; and
WHEREAS, April 17 through April 23, 2005, is National
Volunteer Week, and the Texas Senate takes great pleasure in
recognizing all those citizens who contribute their time to
advancing the well-being of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1976, the Medical Center of Lewisville
has grown to be a large hospital with an admission rate of over
9,000 and surgeries numbering more than 7,000 in 2004; and
WHEREAS, Also in 2004, the hospital had over 33,000
emergency room visits and over 22,000 outpatient visits; the
quality of care required by these numbers is attended to by a
dedicated staff of over 850 health-care professionals; and
WHEREAS, Assisting this staff is a corps of outstanding
volunteers who gave over 23,000 hours of their time to the
medical center last year; some of these dedicated people donate
up to 16 hours a week, and several have been with the hospital
volunteer program for over 20 years; these volunteers include
professional people, university students planning a medical
career, retirees, and homemakers; an additional 40 high school
students assisted in the 2004 summer program, performing the same
duties as the adult volunteers; and
WHEREAS, The volunteers staff the information desks,
deliver flowers, mail, and newspapers, and offer invaluable
support in the Intensive Care Unit, the Emergency Room, and in
Women's and Children's Services; and
WHEREAS, A special dinner is planned for April 14, 2005, to
recognize the volunteers and to salute them for the exceptional
services they provide the Medical Center of Lewisville; the theme
of this year's dinner is "Volunteers Take Time to Care"; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend the outstanding volunteers of
the Medical Center of Lewisville for their tireless efforts to
help others and their many contributions to the Lewisville
community; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
