SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 590
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Houston Hispanic Forum for its outstanding work and
leadership in the community; and
WHEREAS, This nonpartisan organization provides leadership
on many fronts; its goals include providing a means for educational
growth, assisting young people as they strive to achieve their
goals, conducting events that strengthen the image of Hispanics,
and acting as a liaison for constituents across the city, state,
and nation; and
WHEREAS, For 19 years, the primary vehicle for furthering
these goals has been the annual Career and Education Day; open to all
students regardless of race, creed, or color, this event delivers
a strong message that education is necessary in order to succeed;
at the event, 200 universities, nonprofit organizations, and
corporations provide information on entrance requirements and
careers; more than 200,000 students, parents, and educators have
benefited from the acclaimed annual event; and
WHEREAS, Recognized locally and nationally for lowering
the dropout rate among minorities, encouraging students to
remain in school, and increasing parental involvement, the
Houston Hispanic Forum is an impressive example of the impact a
united group of concerned individuals can have on young people
and the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend the Houston Hispanic Forum on
the numerous contributions it has made to the cause of education
and on its outstanding leadership in the Houston community; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
this organization as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
