SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 596
In Memory
of
Justo Guajardo
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Justo Guajardo,
who died March 12, 2005, at the age of 80; and
WHEREAS, Born January 25, 1925, Justo enlisted in the
United States Merchant Marine at the age of 18, where he served
from 1943 until 1946; he served as purser and pharmacist mate,
and received the Pacific War Zone Bar, the Atlantic War Zone Bar,
and the Mediterranean Middle East War Zone Bar; and
WHEREAS, For many years, he and his wife managed a
prosperous drugstore on Guadalupe Street, J. G. Drug; in 1955,
he began his 49-year-long career as an educator; and
WHEREAS, Justo taught at Navarro Elementary School, Ruiz
Elementary School, and Cooper Middle School; in 1967, he joined
the Education Service Center, Region 20, where for 25 years he
headed the Migrant Education Program in Southwest Texas; he then
entered the third phase of his educational career, collaborating
with Ellen Snow under the name Educational Associates; and
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and generosity, Justo
gave unselfishly of himself to others, and his wisdom, warmth,
and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him;
he leaves behind memories that will be treasured by his family
and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
family of Justo Guajardo: his wife, Bertha Herrera Guajardo;
his daughter and son-in-law, Yolanda and Paul Zini; his sister,
Frances Ingle; and his brother, Oscar Guajardo; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Justo Guajardo.
