SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 599
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to recognize Lillie P. Mitchell for earning a Weselene Wiley 
Inspirational Award from the Dallas Chapter of the National 
Association of Black Social Workers, Incorporated; and
	WHEREAS, Lillie was presented the award as a medical 
honoree at the Hezekiah Jerry Scholarship Luncheon on 
March 5, 2005; Lillie exemplifies the theme of this year's 
luncheon, "Continuing To Make A Difference"; and
	WHEREAS, A longtime leader in the battle against domestic
violence, Lillie coordinated the Domestic Violence Program 
within the emergency department at Parkland Hospital and 
participated on Lieutenant Governor Bob Bullock's committee to
make recommendations to the legislature on issues of domestic 
violence; and
	WHEREAS, Lillie was a team leader for Medicine Services 
in the Social Work Department at Parkland Hospital for over 
18 years and was a respected mentor to her many co-workers and
students; she now works with the hospital's Care Management 
Program and is on the Surgery Team; and
	WHEREAS, A highly respected community leader, Lillie 
is a source of strength to others and an inspiration to her 
colleagues, and she deserves recognition for her outstanding 
work; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
79th Legislature, hereby commend Lillie P. Mitchell for her 
exceptional leadership and many accomplishments in the field 
of social work; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
