SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 608
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Omicron Gamma Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, as it sponsors its first annual Buds of Royalty Revue on April 24, 2005; and WHEREAS, The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was organized at Howard University in 1920 as a sister society to the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity; the founding principles of the sorority as expressed by the organizers are finer womanhood, scholarship, service, and sisterly love; and WHEREAS, Established in 1990, the Omicron Gamma Zeta Chapter has experienced steady growth and is an exemplary organization; it has annually provided Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets and now awards four scholarships annually to graduating high school seniors; it has adopted the Friendswood's Sunlight Mission and has participated in a number of other charitable activities; and WHEREAS, At the Buds of Royalty Revue, young women will be groomed in the arts of etiquette, ballroom dancing, and public speaking as part of their training to become debutantes; and WHEREAS, By hosting this educational event, the Omicron Gamma Zeta Chapter is adding to its noted record of community service and setting an example for others to follow; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Omicron Gamma Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, for their many contributions to the young people of Texas and extend to them best wishes for a joyous and successful Buds of Royalty Revue; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
