SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 615
In Memory
of
Isadore J. Kahn
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of El Paso in mourning the loss of Isadore "Izzy" J. Kahn, who
died March 23, 2005, at the age of 90; and
WHEREAS, Born December 10, 1914, Izzy Kahn was a lifelong
resident of El Paso; after graduating from the University of
Southern California, he returned to El Paso to join the family
business, Kahn's Sunbeam Bakery, where he was an executive for
58 years; and
WHEREAS, A devoted member of Temple Mount Sinai and B'nai
Zion Synagogue, Izzy also served as president of the National
Conference of Christians and Jews, and he was a board member of
the Hebrew Union College and the El Paso Jewish Foundation;
and
WHEREAS, A member of the Kiwanis Club and El Maida
Shrine of El Paso, Izzy was also a loyal follower of
The University of Texas at El Paso and its athletic department,
rarely missing a home football or basketball game; prior to
his death, he was the longest living member of the El Paso Country
Club, where he enjoyed many years of golf and gin rummy with his
friends; he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Blaugrund Kahn,
and his son, Andrew Kahn; and
WHEREAS, Izzy Kahn lived his life to the fullest and was a
devoted husband and father, and he leaves behind memories that
will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Isadore J. Kahn: his daughter and son-in-law,
Ellen and Barry Dorfman; his son and daughter-in-law,
Dr. Stuart W. Kahn and Frances Kahn; his sister, Miriam Goldfarb;
his brother, Louis Kahn; and his seven grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Isadore J. Kahn.
