SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 617

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Gary Scharrer, who is leaving his position as a 
reporter for the El Paso Times after 25 years of outstanding 
service; and

	WHEREAS, El Paso's loss, however, is San Antonio's gain,
as Gary is taking a new assignment reporting for the San Antonio 
Express-News; and

	WHEREAS, The Michigan native is a graduate of Michigan 
State University, and his love for all things related to
Michigan State is well-known; and

	WHEREAS, Gary is even more passionate about his faith and 
his family--he is devoted to his wife, Gaye, and his son, Ryan; 
and

	WHEREAS, Gary is a highly esteemed reporter who has covered 
politics in Texas for 25 years, and by now, he is truly a part of 
Texas; Gary is beloved and respected by the citizens of El Paso, 
and his presence in the city will be greatly missed; now, 
therefore, be it

	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Gary Scharrer for his many 
contributions to the El Paso community and extend to him best 
wishes in his new position with the San Antonio Express-News; 
and, be it further

	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
