SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 639
In Memory
of
Elmer Brotze
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Elmer Brotze, who died February 23, 2005, at the age of 93; and WHEREAS, Elmer Brotze was born in Bexar County on October 1, 1911, to Hilmer and Johanna Stapper Brotze, and he was raised on a farm near Converse; he graduated from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio and attended Draughon's Business College; he married Cleora Beck in 1936, and the couple celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in September of 2004; and WHEREAS, Elmer began his career by working at Ginther's Food Store and Acme Brick Company; he then joined General Supply Company, where he worked from 1938 to 1982, serving as corporate secretary and chief financial officer; he was active in a number of professional organizations, such as the National Association of Credit Management; and WHEREAS, He served on the board of directors of Eden Heights and Eden Home, Incorporated, in New Braunfels; he was also active with the Community Evangelical United Church of Christ; he served as president of the church council and as treasurer of the South Texas Association of United Church of Christ churches; and WHEREAS, A man of integrity and generosity, Elmer Brotze will long be remembered by those who knew him for his wisdom and valued counsel; he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Elmer Brotze: his wife, Cleora M. Brotze; his sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Camille Brotze and Gary and Terri Brotze; and his six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Elmer Brotze.
