SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 648
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. James W. Vick as he leaves his position as vice president of Student Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin to return to full-time faculty status; and WHEREAS, Named vice president of Student Affairs in 1989, Dr. Vick has overseen many significant changes in the services offered to students during his tenure in that position; and WHEREAS, Among the many additions and improvements implemented during his administration are the creation of the honors residence halls and the Honors Office, the establishment of the Freshman Interest Group program, the renovation of Gregory Gymnasium, and the construction of the Student Services building; and WHEREAS, While performing his duties as vice president, Dr. Vick has continued to teach a freshman seminar and a Plan II mathematics course each year; and WHEREAS, Dr. Vick has earned numerous awards for his outstanding teaching and his service to undergraduate honors programs, including the Jean Holloway Teaching Excellence Award, the William Blunk Professorship, and the President's Associates Teaching Award; he was named an Ashbel Smith Professor in 1992; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. James W. Vick for his valuable contributions to student life at The University of Texas at Austin and extend to him best wishes for the future as a full-time professor; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
