SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 652

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased 
to recognize the achievements of the School of Public Health 
at the University of North Texas Health Science Center; and
	WHEREAS, The University of North Texas Health Science 
Center submitted its proposal to the Texas Higher Education 
Coordinating Board for a third school within the center in 1998;
that same year, the university received accreditation from the 
Council of Education for Public Health for the Master of Public 
Health Program; and
	WHEREAS, In 1999, the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
funded and granted approval to establish the first school of public
health to serve the North Texas area; and
	WHEREAS, The University of North Texas Health Science 
Center's Master of Public Health Program quickly became successful
and, soon after it was established, it was commended by the community
for the high-quality education it provides; by the year 2000, the 
Master of Public Health Program was rated 19th in the nation by 
U.S. News and World Report; in the year 2001, the Doctor of Public
Health Program was established at the university; and
	WHEREAS, Student enrollment in the Doctor and Master of 
Public Health Programs have exceeded all expectations and the 
University of North Texas Health Science Center deserves credit 
for the excellent programs designed to meet the growing need for
public health education in the Fort Worth/Dallas Metroplex; 
now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
79th Legislature, hereby commend the University of North Texas 
Health Science Center and its School of Public Health and express 
appreciation to the university's board of regents, professors, 
and administrators for their valuable contributions to the 
people of Texas and higher education; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
the university and its School of Public Health as an expression 
of high regard from the Texas Senate.
