SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 663
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
join the citizens of Houston in recognizing May 1 through 8, 2005,
as Cover The Uninsured Week; and
WHEREAS, There are now 45 million Americans with no health
care coverage, and this lack of coverage has become one of our
country's greatest problems; and
WHEREAS, Eight out of 10 of the uninsured in this country
are hard-working, productive, employed members of society; more
than eight million of the uninsured in this country are children,
who have neither choice nor input into the vital issue of their
health care; and
WHEREAS, Due to the inability to afford even basic health
care coverage, uninsured Americans live sicker and die younger
than those more fortunate; they suffer needlessly because they
go without the health care they need; and
WHEREAS, Fewer families and individuals can afford to pay
the soaring cost of health care coverage, and fewer businesses
are able to provide coverage for their employees; and
WHEREAS, Individuals and organizations from every sector
of society will join together during the week of May 1 to tell our
leaders that good health is essential to the well-being of the
nation, and that health care coverage for all Americans must be
their top priority; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby proclaim May 1 through 8, 2005, Cover
The Uninsured Week and join the City of Houston in urging leaders
in our state and nation to explore this vital issue; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
tribute to this special week.
