SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 672
In Memory
of
Frankie Reid Neal Moore
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Houston in mourning the loss of Frankie Reid Neal Moore, who died
April 19, 2005, at the age of 94; and
WHEREAS, Born August 31, 1910, in Newnan, Georgia,
Frankie lived most of her adult life in Houston before moving to
Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1995; she was preceded in death by
her husband, John P. Moore; and
WHEREAS, She earned a bachelor of science degree from
Clark College in Atlanta, Georgia; she then went on to earn a
master of education degree in guidance and counseling from
Texas Southern University; and
WHEREAS, Frankie always took a keen interest in the welfare
of young people; she taught science in the public schools and
later served as a high school guidance counselor with the Houston
Independent School District; she retired in 1980; and
WHEREAS, Frankie was dedicated to her work with the
Girl Scouts; she began her volunteer work with the organization
in 1940, and in recognition of her many years of volunteer
service, she was awarded the Girl Scout Thanks Badge, the highest
award for volunteer service in Scouting; and
WHEREAS, She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and
was a lifetime member of the National Education Association; she
received numerous citations and commendations for her work in the
field of education and for her service with religious organizations;
she was a member of the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of
Christ in Houston and an associate member of the Church of the
Apostles United Church of Christ in Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
Frankie gave unselfishly of herself to others, and her wisdom,
warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
knew her; and
WHEREAS, Frankie Moore lived her life to the fullest and
was a devoted mother and grandmother, and she leaves behind
memories that will be cherished forever by her family and many
friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Frankie Reid Neal Moore: her daughter,
Karna Moore Burkeen; her grandsons, Derrick N. Evans,
Michael K. Burkeen, and Kenneth J. Burkeen; and her
great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Edward Burkeen; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Frankie Reid Neal Moore.
