SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 688
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize April 29, 2005, as El Dia de los Niños in Brownsville
and across the state; and
WHEREAS, Traditionally known as a Latino celebration,
El Dia de los Niños has become a worldwide event for children of
all cultures; the United States Senate passed a resolution in
1998 to set aside April 30 as El Dia de los Niños and encouraged
all Americans to recognize the significance of family and to
honor, educate, and prepare our young people for the future; and
WHEREAS, The concept of designating a special day for
children originally came from the National Latino Children's
Institute in San Antonio; the goal was to draw attention to the
continuing needs of Latino children and to highlight the progress
communities have made in providing for these needs; today,
children of all cultures and nationalities are honored in this
annual observance; and
WHEREAS, In Brownsville, The Children's Museum of Brownsville
is sponsoring celebratory events at Dean Porter Park, where
festivities will include a variety of uplifting and educational
activities and special events to promote the well-being of
children and greater communication among family members; and
WHEREAS, Children are heirs to the future of our state, our
nation, and the world, and they must be nurtured and guided to
realize their full potential as productive members of our society
and the leaders of tomorrow; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby recognize April 29, 2005, as El Dia de
los Niños and encourage Texans across the state to observe the
occasion with appropriate activities; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of this special day.
