SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 706
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Sweetish Hill Bakery as it celebrates its 30th year of providing high-quality baked goods in Austin; and WHEREAS, The popular bakery on West Sixth Street, co-owned by Patricia Bauer-Slate and Jim Murphy, combines a deli with an artisan bakery and attracts a crowd as eclectic as its variety of baked goods; and WHEREAS, Some of the Sweetish Hill customers have been coming to the bakery for years for its fresh fruit Danishes, popular Gypsy Horn croissants, healthy whole grain breads, or savory sandwiches; Sweetish Hill bakes cakes, caters parties, provides a daily hot lunch for a private school, and supplies baked goods to some of the best restaurants in town; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1975 by Patricia Bauer-Slate and Tom Neuhaus in an old Victorian house in an East Austin area known as Old Swede's Hill, the bakery has undergone a number of changes over the years, but its excellence in producing its baked goods has remained constant; and WHEREAS, Jim Murphy joined the bakery first as a baker in 1988 and became a co-owner in 1990; today, the bakery has a staff of over 40 employees at its main location on West Sixth Street and supplies breads, pastries, soups, and salads for an additional site at 98 San Jacinto Boulevard; and WHEREAS, With over 85 products made fresh daily and a history of 30 years of quality breads and pastries, Sweetish Hill remains a gathering place to some of Austin's most interesting people; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby congratulate the talented owners and staff of Sweetish Hill Bakery on its 30th anniversary and extend to them best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
