SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 713
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins citizens
across our nation in recognizing April 30 through May 7, 2005, as
the 30th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam era; and
WHEREAS, On April 30, 1975, the last Americans withdrew
from the rooftop of the United States Embassy in Saigon,
signaling the end of the war in Vietnam; on May 7, 1975,
President Gerald R. Ford signed into law a bill officially ending
the Vietnam era; and
WHEREAS, From Ia Drang to Khe Sanh, from Tet to Hue, many
veterans honored this nation with their dedication and their
courage, and over 58,000 citizens gave the last full measure of
devotion in service to their country; and
WHEREAS, Veterans of the Vietnam era served their country
valiantly under difficult circumstances; they and their families
are to be praised for their service, sacrifice, and devotion to
duty at a time of great turmoil and uncertainty in the history of
the United States; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend the veterans of the Vietnam era
and encourage Texans across our state to observe April 30 through
May 7, 2005, as the 30th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam
era; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of the Vietnam veterans.
