SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 723
In Memory
of
Jesse Yell Womack II
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Jesse Yell "Jess" Womack II,
who died April 1, 2005, at the age of 58; and
WHEREAS, Born January 21, 1947, in San Angelo, Jess moved
to San Antonio with his family in 1958, and he called the city
his home for the rest of his life; he was preceded in death by
his father, Owen Walter Womack; his mother, Emily Crain Herder;
and his stepfather, Paul K. Herder; and
WHEREAS, Jess graduated from the University of the South
in Sewanee, Tennessee, and he earned a graduate degree in business
administration from Trinity University; and
WHEREAS, A descendant of a pioneering ranching family
that was instrumental in introducing Brahma cattle to Texas,
Jess Womack's business interests included agricultural and
ranching operations; and
WHEREAS, This led to his abiding interest in the conservation
of natural resources; he and his wife, Lou, were awarded the Lone
Star Land Steward of the Year award by the Texas Parks and Wildlife
Department for their restoration and preservation of wetlands
and prairies on his Victoria County ranch; and
WHEREAS, An active participant in civic life, Jess was a
member of the Order of the Alamo, the Argyle, the San Antonio
Country Club, and many other organizations; his board memberships
included the San Antonio Zoo and the Mission Road Development
Center; and
WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Jess made his family
his first priority in everything he did; his capacity for uniting
that love with the ease of a best friend made him an enduring
blessing to his entire family; and
WHEREAS, A man of dedication, strength, and generosity, he
gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and good humor
will not be forgotten by those who knew him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
family of Jesse Yell Womack II: his wife, Helen Louise Womack;
his daughters and sons-in-law, Louisa and Jack Mayfield and
Dr. Virginia Nell Duncan and Dr. Robert Duncan; his son
Jesse Yell Womack III and his wife, Lisa; his son
William Henry Crain Womack III; his granddaughter,
Emily Grace Mayfield; his sister, Suzanne Womack Canavan;
and his brother, Walter Crain Womack; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for the members of his family as an expression of deepest
sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate
adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jesse Yell Womack II.
