SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 725
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. Kent Gardner as he retires from his position as vice president for student affairs at The University of Texas at Arlington to continue with a career as a full-time professor in the university's College of Education; and WHEREAS, A member of the university administration since 1967, Dr. Gardner has filled several posts during his tenure, including serving as director of housing and as associate dean of student life, as well as his current position; and WHEREAS, Well known for his expertise as an educator and administrator, Dr. Gardner is a much-sought-after speaker and has presented numerous workshops throughout the country every year on such topics as motivation, leadership, and conflict resolution; he currently teaches a leadership development course; and WHEREAS, Dr. Gardner has been a valuable asset to the larger academic community in many ways; he has served on the board of directors of Texas Student Personnel Administrators and has been chairman of the State Commission on Legislative Affairs for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators; and WHEREAS, Dr. Gardner is highly respected for his leadership, fairness, and understanding approach to his students, and his work on the administrative level will be greatly missed; the university is privileged, however, to continue to benefit from his many talents as he returns to his roots in the classroom; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Kent Gardner for his years of dedication as an administrator with the university and extend to him best wishes for many more fulfilling years as a full-time professor; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
