SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 729
WHEREAS, When they were married many years ago,
Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Abdalla, Jr., placed great faith and trust
in the future, and they have been amply rewarded, as they are
celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on May 14; and
WHEREAS, Abraham Abdalla, Jr., was born on April 3, 1928,
in DeQuincy, Louisiana; after the death of his father and the
remarriage of his mother three years later, his family moved to
Houston; he graduated from Jefferson Davis High School and served
in the United States Marine Corps before attending the University
of Houston, where he earned a mechanical engineering degree; and
WHEREAS, Connie Murphey was born on September 19, 1932, in
Monroe, Louisiana, and moved with her family to Beeville, then to
Carthage, where she graduated from high school; she earned a
degree in foods and nutrition and institutional management from
Texas State College for Women and moved to Houston to complete a
dietetic internship at the Veterans Administration Medical
Center; and
WHEREAS, The couple met through friends in 1954 and married
in Houston in the chapel at the Veterans Administration Hospital;
they have both had successful careers; Abraham worked for a
number of companies and retired after a 25-year career with Texas
Instruments, Incorporated, where he was a design engineer; and
WHEREAS, After raising her family, Connie returned to
work as a registered dietitian for Heights Hospital, where she
worked for nine years; she then worked in clinical nutrition for
The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center for 17
years; and
WHEREAS, After retiring, Abraham spent time as a real
estate investor; he is an accomplished marksman and enjoys
fishing and hunting; Connie is active in her community and her
church and enjoys cooking and sewing; and
WHEREAS, The world has changed considerably during the
years of their marriage, yet Mr. and Mrs. Abdalla have cherished
traditional family and moral values; they have raised three
children, who with their families are a source of much pride and
joy; the families enjoyed vacationing together in Colorado,
where they built a cabin; they later built a second cabin in
Leona; and
WHEREAS, Abraham and Connie instilled in their children a
love for the outdoors and a genuine respect for their country and
other people; the long and happy union of this distinguished
couple is truly an inspiration to all who know them; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere congratulations to
Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Abdalla, Jr., on their golden wedding
anniversary with best wishes for many years of continued
happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
this distinguished couple as a memento of this grand occasion.
