SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 739
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
join the citizens of Galena Park in recognizing May 5, 2005, as
the 54th annual National Day of Prayer; and
WHEREAS, Civic prayers and national days of prayer
have a long history in America, dating back to the First
Continental Congress in 1775; the annual National Day of Prayer
was established in 1952 by a joint resolution passed by the
United States Congress and signed by President Harry Truman; and
WHEREAS, One of the founding principles of this nation was
the freedom of religion, and the National Day of Prayer is an
opportunity for citizens to reflect on our history and pay homage
to that heritage; and
WHEREAS, The theme for this year's National Day of Prayer
is "God Shed His Grace On Thee"; the citizens of Galena Park will
join Americans all across the nation in commemorating this
occasion by hosting a ceremony at 12:00 noon, May 5, 2005, on the
steps of the Galena Park City Hall; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Galena Park
for organizing prayer vigils and encouraging Texans to observe
the National Day of Prayer; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the citizens of Galena Park as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
