SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 745
In Memory
of
Marlene Guess
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of Marlene Guess, who died recently; and
WHEREAS, Born in Queens, New York, in 1933, Marlene attended
Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, and later graduated from
Hunter College; she then began a long and dedicated career in the
field of education by serving as an elementary school teacher in
Queens; and
WHEREAS, She moved with her family to Englewood, New Jersey,
where she continued teaching until becoming principal of Cleveland
Elementary School; she retired from that position to dedicate
herself to full-time volunteering; and
WHEREAS, Teaching was in her blood, however, and she began
teaching preschool at Temple Beth-El in South Orange, where her
grandchildren were attending; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, she was an elder and a
longtime member of Prospect Presbyterian Church; she lived in
Maplewood, New Jersey, for 31 years; she was active in her
community and was a member of the New Jersey Performing Arts
Center Women's Board, Circlelets, Incorporated, Escapades,
and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; and
WHEREAS, She was a loving wife and devoted mother and
grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be
treasured forever by her family and many friends; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Marlene Guess: her husband, Richard; and
her son and daughter and four grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
it do so in memory of Marlene Guess.
