SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 746
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Kadiata Diop on the occasion of her initiation into the Omicron Theta chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated; and WHEREAS, Founded on the campus of Howard University in 1920, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, is a nonprofit organization that provides programs based on the principles of scholarship, service, sisterly love, and finer womanhood; and WHEREAS, The Omicron Theta chapter was founded at The University of Texas at Austin on February 18, 1978; its prestigious alumnae have included the first African American woman to earn a degree in aerospace engineering and the first African American woman to be named Most Outstanding Student; and WHEREAS, Omicron Theta was the first undergraduate chapter to receive a community service award from the Austin chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; it has also held the honor of maintaining the highest grade point average of all sororities since 1999; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby congratulate Kadiata Diop for her initiation into the Omicron Theta chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
