SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 792
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Congresswoman Kay Granger, who has shown exceptional
dedication to her service on behalf of her country and her state;
and
WHEREAS, Congresswoman Granger represents the
12th District of Texas and is the only Republican woman to serve
in the United States House of Representatives from Texas; she has
demonstrated outstanding leadership as a deputy majority whip
and as a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee;
she also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense and
on the Subcommittee on the Departments of Labor, Health and Human
Services, Education, and Related Agencies; and
WHEREAS, She is a leading advocate for programs to ensure
that our country maintains a strong national defense system;
she was an original member of the Select Committee on Homeland
Security when it was created in 2004, and she chairs the House War
on Terror Public Affairs Team; and
WHEREAS, Prior to her election to Congress in 1996,
Kay Granger served as a member of the Fort Worth City Council for
two years and as mayor of the city for five years; during her
tenure as mayor, Fort Worth received the prestigious National
Civic League's 1993 All America City Award, in large part because
of the city's anticrime crusade; and
WHEREAS, The successful owner of an insurance agency, she
has won widespread acclaim for her many achievements in both her
personal career and her public service; she has been inducted
into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame and was the first woman to be
inducted into the Fort Worth Business Hall of Fame; she has
received many awards and honors for her work to protect our
citizens and to improve the health, education, and well-being
of all our nation's citizens; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Congresswoman Kay Granger for
her exceptional service to her country and to this state; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
