SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 793
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Morton High School basketball team for winning the
2005 University Interscholastic League Class 1A, Division I,
boys' state championship title and the Texas Cup; and
WHEREAS, The Morton High School Indians were victorious in
their 13th appearance at the state tournament, defeating Snook
High School by a score of 66-38; they then defeated Lipan High
School by a score of 69-53 to win the final Texas Cup, which
matched the Division I and Division II champions of Class 1A
against each other; and
WHEREAS, These outstanding young athletes have shown great
talent and determination in finishing the season with a record of
30-5; team members Landon Pierce, J.R. Elmore, Eli Vasquez,
Brandon Eubanks, Shawn Merritt, Kendrick Johnson, Calvin Johnson,
Paul Zapata, James Cornish, Antione Garrett, Derrick Green,
Jacob Sabala, and varsity basketball managers Alby Enriquez,
Lance Kimbrell, Angie Martinez, and Natalie Martinez can take
great pride in their stellar season; and
WHEREAS, The exemplary leadership skills of head coach
Ignatius Caraway and assistant coach Justin Hefley have
instilled in these fine young men the ideals of teamwork,
discipline, and sportsmanship; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend the Morton High School Indians
for their successful season and congratulate them on winning the
boys' Class 1A state basketball championship and Texas Cup; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
