SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 795
In Memory
of
Cherie Shelton Von Dohlen
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Goliad and Austin in mourning the loss of
Cherie Shelton Von Dohlen, who died April 27, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Born on October 20, 1943, in Beeville, Cherie Shelton
was raised in Goliad and graduated from Goliad High School; she
attended Victoria College and Texas A&I University in Kingsville;
she married Tim Von Dohlen, and the couple lived in Goliad and
Austin and enjoyed a loving 40-year union; and
WHEREAS, Cherie actively supported her husband during his
14 years of service in the Texas House of Representatives and
served others through many charitable projects, including the
Knights of Columbus; she had recently been named a Rotary
Paul Harris Fellow; and
WHEREAS, Noted for her love of Texas and everything in it,
from the bluebonnets to the hummingbirds that brightened her day,
Cherie was fascinated with Texas history, particularly the
history of Goliad County; she enjoyed her friends, traveling, and
making new acquaintances; and
WHEREAS, An independent, spirited Texan in the tradition
of the Texas pioneer woman, Cherie never hesitated to share her
opinion; she was generous and caring and enriched the lives of
all who knew her with her love and compassion, her warmth and
kindness, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest;
and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, she was a parishioner at
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goliad and at
Saint John Neumann Catholic Church in Austin; she derived great
satisfaction in serving as a lector and an Extraordinary Minister
of the Eucharist; she was a member of the Catholic Daughters and
served as first regent of the Goliad Court; she was a Lady of the
Knights and a member of Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem
for more than 20 years; and
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother
and was a loving and caring daughter, and she leaves behind
memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many
friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Cherie Shelton Von Dohlen: her husband,
Tim Von Dohlen; her mother, Jean Gouger Reed; her father,
Richard P. Shelton; her sons and daughters-in-law, Tim Von Dohlen II
and Lori, Chris and Terri Von Dohlen, and Patrick and
Happy Von Dohlen; her sister, Mary Jon Urban; her brother,
Richard M. Shelton; and her nine grandchildren; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Cherie Shelton Von Dohlen.
