SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 798
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. William Seth Adams, who is retiring from his position on the faculty of the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin at the end of May, 2005; and WHEREAS, An exemplary liturgist, consummate teacher, and artful wordsmith, Professor Adams has done much to enhance the quality of instruction at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, where he has been a member of the faculty since 1982; he has worked with several diocesan commissions on liturgy, architecture, and ecumenical affairs; he has also served as a priest associate at Saint James' Episcopal Church; and WHEREAS, His interests focus on the nature of liturgical leadership, the role played by liturgy in pastoral care, the relationship of liturgy and matters of social justice, and the interplay of liturgy and architecture; and WHEREAS, In his book, Shaped by Images: One who Presides, he explores new ways for ordained ministers to guide and support the vision of the church; a 1999 collection of his essays, Moving the Furniture: Liturgical Theory, Practice and Environment, challenges the church to examine its thinking and assumptions about how Christians worship; and WHEREAS, He is a highly respected scholar and is beloved for his endearing qualities and his genuine concern for others; he has fostered the liturgical focus of generations of seminarians through his teaching and guidance, and his presence on the faculty of the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. William Seth Adams for his exemplary service at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest and extend to him best wishes in his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
