SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 827
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize William Anton "Andy" Kruft for his exceptional service to his country; and WHEREAS, Andy is serving in Afghanistan with the United States Agency for International Development and has shown his enthusiasm and love for that country and its people by organizing campaigns to send packages filled with school supplies, toys, and clothes from the United States; and WHEREAS, With an aptitude for foreign languages and a love of other cultures, Andy was awarded a four-year Reserve Officers' Training Corps scholarship at the University of California at Berkeley and graduated with a bachelor's degree in German; he was commissioned on May 22, 1992, as a lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve; and WHEREAS, Andy was called to active duty in the spring of 2003, and he looked forward to the opportunity to serve in Afghanistan; seeing the need for continued support in that war-ravaged land at the end of his tour of duty, Andy joined the United States Agency for International Development; and WHEREAS, As an ambassador of goodwill, Andy's idealism and optimism invigorate those around him and benefit his work for the betterment of the Afghan people; and WHEREAS, Andy exemplifies the best character traits of Americans: openness, tolerance, and multicultural understanding; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby commend William Anton Kruft for his outstanding accomplishments and his altruistic efforts on behalf of the people of Afghanistan; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
