SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 830
In Memory
of
Charles Thomas Russell III
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of Charles Thomas Russell III, who died
April 6, 2005, at the age of 72; and
WHEREAS, Born in Georgetown on January 12, 1933, to
Charles Thomas Russell, Jr., and Mary Birch Russell, Charlie
served in the United States Army at Fort Hood; he began his
professional career as a police officer in Georgetown; and
WHEREAS, After serving with the Georgetown Police Department,
Charlie joined the Texas Department of Public Safety, where,
except for a period of a few years as a deputy at the Travis County
Sheriff's Department, he was to remain until his retirement; and
WHEREAS, After becoming a sergeant, Charlie was assigned to
the executive security detail at the Capitol, where he served during
the terms of Governors John Connally, Preston Smith, Dolph Briscoe,
William P. Clements, Mark White, and Ann Richards; and
WHEREAS, Charlie retired after 35 years with the Texas
Department of Public Safety, during which time he had earned a
master peace officer certification and a special Texas Ranger
certification; and
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion,
Charlie Russell gave generously of himself to others, and his
wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those
who knew him; and
WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, he leaves behind
memories that will be cherished forever by his family and many
friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Charles Thomas Russell III: his beloved wife
of 50 years, Bonnie Guthrie Russell; his son, Charles Ray Russell;
his daughters, Ramona and Donna Russell; his brother Jack Russell;
his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Marsha Russell and
Mark and Janis Russell; his sister and brother-in-law,
Charlsie and Harold Moore; and his many nieces and nephews;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of the Russell family as an expression of deepest
sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns
this day, it do so in memory of Charles Thomas Russell III.
