SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 848
In Memory
of
Jimmie Doyle Birdwell
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Ferris in mourning the loss of long-time mayor
Jimmie Doyle Birdwell, who died April 12, 2005, at the age of 74; and
WHEREAS, Born in Hillsboro on September 21, 1930, to Oides and
Emma Everett Birdwell, Jimmie graduated from Ferris High School;
he attended Jacksonville Baptist College and Texas A&M University;
and
WHEREAS, A man of many interests and talents, Jimmie was
employed by Sadisco, Red Ball Motor Freight, and the United States
Postal Service; he was an ordained minister and former pastor of
the First Baptist Church in DeSoto; and
WHEREAS, In addition to serving as mayor of Ferris for
almost 20 years, Jimmie was active in many organizations,
including the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the
National Rural Letter Carriers' Association; an avid sports fan,
he was an officer of the Ferris Little League Association and the
Ferris Yellowjacket Booster Club; and
WHEREAS, A calm presence in the halls of government, Jimmie
was known for being a great peacemaker; he always went the extra
mile to settle disputes and solve problems; and
WHEREAS, A man of faith, strength, and compassion, he gave
generously of himself to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and
valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Jimmie Doyle Birdwell: his wife of 55 years,
Bobbie Jean; his sons, Jayme, Robbie, and Clint; his daughters,
Donna Shaw and Janna Neal; his brothers, Joel, Ronnie, Bill, and
Timothy; and his sisters, Mary, Debbie, Kimothy, and Pat; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of the Birdwell family as an expression of deepest
sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns
this day, it do so in memory of Jimmie Birdwell.
