SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 854
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Dramatic Order of Knights and Princesses of Omar of
the Grand Court Order of Calanthe Jurisdiction of Texas on the
occasion of their state convention; and
WHEREAS, Founded May 30, 1897, on the principles of
fidelity, harmony, and love, the Dramatic Order of Knights and
Princesses of Omar has provided generations of service to its
community; and
WHEREAS, Established to promote benevolence and charity
and to improve the well-being of mankind, this commendable
organization has created numerous programs through the years to
further these goals; and
WHEREAS, To promote the involvement of young people in
society, a youth auxiliary was formed in 1907, and a scholarship
fund was begun in 1954; during the Great Depression, the Grand
Court Order of Calanthe lent $46,000 to Paul Quinn College for
building construction; and
WHEREAS, Celebrating over a century of community service,
this outstanding organization is holding its state convention
July 3 through 5, 2005, in Houston; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend the Dramatic Order of Knights
and Princesses of Omar of the Grand Court Order of Calanthe
Jurisdiction of Texas for their history of service and
achievement; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
this fine organization as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
