SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 855
In Memory
of
Donald R. Tharp
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Euless and the Dallas/Fort Worth area in mourning the
loss of Donald R. Tharp, who died April 2, 2005, at the age of 65;
and
WHEREAS, Donald Tharp was a former naval officer and a
Vietnam War veteran; he was an elected member of the Euless
Historical Preservation Committee and worked tirelessly to
preserve the city's cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, Donald was born in Tyler on January 6, 1940, and
grew up in Fort Worth; he earned a bachelor's degree in physics
and a master's degree in accounting from The University of Texas
at Arlington; and
WHEREAS, Donald joined the United States Naval Reserve in
1957 and went on active duty in 1963 at the start of the Vietnam
War; he earned numerous medals and commendations and rose to the
rank of lieutenant; he served in the Military Air Transport
Services, a global military air carrier, and served as his
squadron's navigator until he left the Navy in 1967; and
WHEREAS, Donald was active in veterans groups, including
the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he was a
past vice commander of the Metroplex Chapter of the Military
Order of the World Wars; he was a lifelong firearms collector and
widely respected in the Southwest for his expertise on firearms;
and
WHEREAS, After his military service, Donald worked for 20
years in the United States Department of Housing and Urban
Development in community planning development; for the past 11
years, he worked as an accountant for H&R Block; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Donald attended Bible classes
at Bellevue Baptist Church in Hurst and was known for his
profound knowledge of the Bible; and
WHEREAS, Donald was admired and respected by all who knew
him for his wisdom, his warmth, and his kind and endearing
manner; he was a loyal brother, and he leaves behind memories
that will be treasured forever by his family and many friends;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Donald R. Tharp
and extend sincere condolences to his brother, Paul Porter Tharp;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when
the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Donald R. Tharp.
