SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 864

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize the Houston Lawyers Association on the occasion of
its 50th anniversary; and
	WHEREAS, The Houston Lawyers Association was founded in 
1955 to serve as a unified voice for equal access and justice in 
the legal system in Houston for African American lawyers and the 
broader African American community; and
	WHEREAS, Great strides toward these goals have been made on 
both the local and national level since the association's 
founding, and the Houston Lawyers Association will continue to 
build on this legacy in the future; and
	WHEREAS, The association will salute its remarkable 
history and celebrate "Honoring Our History . . . Furthering Our 
Legacy" on May 21, 2005, at the 50th Anniversary Gala being held 
in the Hilton Americas Hotel located in downtown Houston; and
	WHEREAS, The gala celebration will be a tribute to the 
lawyers who were pioneers in the early days of the association's 
founding and a chance to continue building on the legacy of its 
past; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby recognize the Houston Lawyers 
Association on the special occasion of its 50th Anniversary Gala; 
and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
the members of the association as an expression of esteem from 
the Texas Senate.
