SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 869
In Memory
of
Mary Lou McLain
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Mary Lou McLain, who
died April 22, 2005, at the age of 44; and
WHEREAS, Mary Lou was born July 21, 1960, in Sao Paolo, Brazil,
to John and Mary Lou McLain; she graduated from Vanderbilt University
with a degree in Latin American studies; and
WHEREAS, Mary Lou decided to devote her life to a career in
nursing; she earned a graduate degree in nursing science from
Texas Woman's University in 1991; and
WHEREAS, For many years, the patients of Brackenridge
Hospital benefited from Mary Lou's care and devotion; she also
took on the responsibility of quality improvement initiatives in
the emergency department; and
WHEREAS, A passionate health care advocate, Mary Lou served
as a member of the Travis County Hospital Steering Committee and
as president of Family Eldercare; countless Texas citizens have
received quality health care as a result of her dedication and
hard work; and
WHEREAS, A woman of generosity and compassion, she gave
unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel
will not be forgotten by those who knew her; she leaves behind
memories that will be cherished forever by her family and many
friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
family of Mary Lou McLain: her husband, Lee Leffingwell; her mother,
Mary Lou Schulz; and her sisters, Kathy Brault, Chris McLain, and
Virginia McLain; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
it do so in memory of Mary Lou McLain.
