SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 877

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Mrs. Ella Hughes on the occasion of her retirement from 
Gus A. Oleson Elementary School; and

	WHEREAS, Dedicated to the education of children for
22 years, Mrs. Hughes has served in many capacities throughout 
her career, including her most recent position as an elementary 
school counselor; and

	WHEREAS, Mrs. Hughes has earned the respect of students and 
parents alike through her numerous activities on behalf of her 
students; she has served as coordinator of the VISA Program and 
of Career Day at Gus A. Oleson Elementary School; and

	WHEREAS, The Houston Independent School District honored 
Mrs. Hughes by naming her as a finalist for Bilingual Teacher of 
the Year; in addition, she is president of the Galena 
Park-Houston Metroplex chapter of the National Women of 
Achievement; and

	WHEREAS, In honor of Mrs. Hughes, the faculty and staff of 
Gus A. Oleson Elementary School are hosting a reception on
May 17, 2005, to acknowledge her many years of devoted service
to her students; now, therefore, be it

	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Mrs. Ella Hughes for her many 
years of devotion to the schoolchildren of Houston; and, be it 
further

	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
