SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 885


In Memory

of

Refugio Esteban Quintero

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Austin in mourning the loss of Refugio Esteban "Steve" Quintero,
who died April 24, 2005, at the age of 32; and
	WHEREAS, Steve was born in Austin on August 26, 1972; he 
graduated from Johnston High School, where he served as class 
president and participated in the marching band; and
	WHEREAS, Steve pursued a career as a physical therapist 
aide at the Saint David's rehabilitation center; he developed a 
special interest in the center's aquatic rehabilitation program 
and became active in Eels on Wheels, a program that allows people 
with disabilities to become certified divers through the 
Handicapped Scuba Association; and
	WHEREAS, Through Eels on Wheels, Steve was able to combine 
his love for scuba diving with his passion for helping people 
with physical disabilities; he had learned to live life to the 
fullest, and he wanted others to have that opportunity, 
regardless of their circumstances in life; and
	WHEREAS, A man of genuine warmth and good humor, Steve gave 
generously of himself to others, and his strength, wisdom, and 
kindness will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
	WHEREAS, A devoted father, son, and brother, Steve leaves 
behind memories that will be cherished forever by his family and 
many friends; now, therefore, be it

	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 
bereaved family of Refugio Esteban Quintero:  his daughter, 
Shannon Paige Quintero; his parents, Pete Quintero, Sr., and 
Janie Lugo Quintero; his brother, Pete Quintero, Jr.; his 
grandmother, Margaret Quintero; and his grandfather, Felix Lugo, Sr.;
and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy 
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this 
day, it do so in memory of Refugio Esteban Quintero.
