SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 913
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Luis A. Diaz de Leon for his admirable contributions toward improving conditions in South Texas and in documenting the role of women in shaping the history of Laredo and Webb County; and WHEREAS, Luis has selflessly served his country and his state for many years; a World War II veteran, he was recognized in 1967 by President Lyndon B. Johnson for his work on the Chamizal Convention, and he was later appointed as a delegate to the White House Conference on Children; and WHEREAS, Together with artist Jorge Sanchez, Sr., and the American GI Forum, Luis has published Historical Women of Laredo-2000; this book provides admirable role models from the past to help girls and young women lead their communities into the future; and WHEREAS, Luis diligently seeks ways to improve the lives of the people of South Texas and continues to raise awareness of important issues with the help of the American GI Forum and the Laredo Veterans Coalition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby commend Luis A. Diaz de Leon for his meritorious efforts to preserve the heritage of Laredo and Webb County and his important service on behalf of the people of Texas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
