SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 924
WHEREAS, Citizens across the State of Texas are joining
Jewish communities and people around the world in observing
Israel's Day of Independence; and
WHEREAS, Each year this event, also called Yom HaAtzmaut,
is observed on the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence
by the Israeli Parliament in 1948 as marking the creation of the
modern State of Israel, a beacon of democracy in the Middle East; and
WHEREAS, Since its establishment, the State of Israel has
faced many challenges; in the pursuit of peace and security,
Israel seeks to protect its citizens from fear and instability;
with the recent Palestinian election of Mahmoud Abbas, Israel
hopes to have a committed Palestinian partner, and hopes that new
steps toward security, tranquility, and peace will be taken; and
WHEREAS, The State of Texas and the State of Israel share
the common values of democracy, freedom, and liberty; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the State of Israel and
join the Consulate General of Israel to the Southwest United States
in encouraging all Texans to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the
founding of the State of Israel on May 12, 2005; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of the citizens of the State of Israel and the Jewish people.
