SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 926
In Memory
of
Gardner Golston Osborn
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Bryan in mourning the loss of Gardner Golston Osborn, who died
April 8, 2005, at the age of 72; and
WHEREAS, Gardner was born in Tyler on January 25, 1933, to
Roy D. and Frances Golston; she spent her lifetime caring for her
family and in service to her church and the community; she was an
active member of Saint Andrews Episcopal Church and Episcopal
Church Women and held numerous church-related offices; and
WHEREAS, She is renowned in the Bryan community for being one of
the founders of the Brazos Valley Prenatal Clinic in 1985; through
her continued devotion and commitment to the nonprofit Bryan facility,
she became known as the "mother of the clinic"; in 1991, she, and
clinic staff were honored by President George H. W. Bush as one of the
"Thousand Points of Light"; and
WHEREAS, When she was in Dallas, Gardner was a Young Life
sponsor; she was a member of Tri-Delta sorority and served as
Scholastic Advisor for chapters at the University of New Mexico,
and her alma mater, Southern Methodist University, and she was
instrumental in starting the Gamma Alpha Chapter of the sorority
at Texas A&M University; and
WHEREAS, She was a Girl Scout leader for 19 years and
volunteered with the Boy Scouts, the Parent Teacher Association,
and with many of her children's other activities; the Osborn
family was well known in the Texas A&M University community; they
provided sanctuary and support to many students and sponsored the
men's rugby team from 1973 to 1975; they served as a host family
for foreign exchange students, and in 1983, Gardner and her
husband were named Aggie Parents of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, she was widely recognized for her
many civic endeavors, including being named Citizen of the Year
in 1986 and 1996 by the Brazos Valley Unit, Texas Chapter of the
National Association of Social Workers and Woman of Distinction
in 2002 by the Blue Bonnet Girl Scout Council; and
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife and mother, and she leaves
behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and
many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
family of Gardner Golston Osborn: her husband, Bill Osborn; her
son, Bill Osborn II; her four daughters and sons-in-law, Maury
and Tom Meyer, Cindy and Dale Parker, Chris and DeWayne Travelstead,
and Gardner and Larry Carlisle; and her eight grandchildren;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
it do so in memory of Gardner Golston Osborn.
