SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 933
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to recognize Jimmy Smith and Jack Bow of Alpine for helping
to maintain the tradition of the locally owned, hometown
business; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Smith and Jack Bow own City Drug Store,
which has been in the Bow family since 1936, when Jack's father,
Robert A. Bow, bought the business from P. D. Coulson; and
WHEREAS, Jack joined his father in the family business
after graduating from The University of Texas in 1955 with a
pharmacy degree; Jimmy moved to Alpine in 1976 and became Jack's
partner, and City Drug Store continues to be an Alpine
institution; and
WHEREAS, City Drug Store has five full-time employees
and several part-time workers; the dedication of the store's
employees is a testament to the value of the hometown business;
two have been with the store for more than 30 years, and another
for more than 20 years; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Smith, Jack Bow, and the City Drug Store
remind all Texans of the heritage of personal service and
independent spirit that are the hallmarks of the locally owned
business; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Jimmy Smith and Jack Bow for
their dedication to maintaining the tradition of the Main Street
business; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
