SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 954
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize John Washington for his many accomplishments and his
valuable contributions to education and to the students of Texas;
and
WHEREAS, John came to Mansfield Independent School
District Board of Trustees after a long career as a teacher,
counselor, and principal in Port Arthur; unable to remain
retired, he easily won a seat on the board of trustees; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, the school district has faced
phenomenal growth, and John has often acted as the board's
unofficial public relations manager, using his background as an
educator to bridge the gap between teachers and administrators;
and
WHEREAS, John was often able to conciliate opposing
viewpoints on sensitive educational issues in the community,
such as censorship, drawing on his teaching experience and his
belief in educational ideals; and
WHEREAS, He plans to stay active in schools and teaching,
and he will continue to serve as an assistant superintendent of
Sunday school at Bethlehem Baptist Church; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend John Washington for his many
years of dedication and commitment to education of the
schoolchildren of Texas; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
