SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 959
In Memory
of
Adolfo G. Betancourt, Sr.
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Cameron County in mourning the loss of the
Honorable Adolfo G. Betancourt, Sr., who died March 21, 2005,
at the age of 82; and
WHEREAS, Born on July 4, 1922, in Brownsville,
Adolfo Betancourt served his country in the United States Army
during World War II; he graduated from Saint Mary's University in
San Antonio and South Texas College of Law in Houston; he was
preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Juanita; and
WHEREAS, A longtime Cameron County judge, Adolfo Betancourt
began working for the county in 1953 with the district attorney's
office, and he served as justice of the peace from 1969 through
1976; and
WHEREAS, He served as county court-at-law judge from 1986
until he retired in 1994; the highly regarded jurist was honored
by the Commissioners Court with a day named in his honor on
December 14, 1994; and
WHEREAS, He was recognized as a great prosecutor when he
served as chief felony prosecutor in the district attorney's
office, and he was an outstanding criminal defense lawyer when he
was in private practice; and
WHEREAS, A highly esteemed gentleman and a distinguished
and respected judge, Adolfo G. Betancourt has left a lasting
imprint on the Brownsville community, and he will long be
remembered for his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel; and
WHEREAS, Adolfo Betancourt was a devoted father and
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Judge Adolfo G. Betancourt, Sr.: his
children, Adolph Betancourt, Jr., David Arnold Betancourt,
Dahlia Eliza "Lali" Betancourt, and Laura Lita Serra; and his six
grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his
family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
Judge Adolfo G. Betancourt, Sr.
