SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 973
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
tribute to Willard Lewis of Mount Pleasant on the grand occasion
of his 80th birthday on May 26, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Willard was born in 1925 in Titus County to Alza
and Ophelia Lewis; he attended Booker T. Washington High School
and served his country during World War II as a member of the 92nd
Infantry, Buffalo Division; he had tours of duty in Italy and
Switzerland and attained the rank of sergeant; and
WHEREAS, He is the father of five children and has been
married to Julia Ann Pauline Hurndon since 1965; he retired in
1985 after 30 years of service with Petrofina Oil Refinery; and
WHEREAS, Willard attends Sheppard Street Church of Christ
and serves on the membership committee; he also serves as
director of the Planning Committee for Piney Cemetery; and
WHEREAS, A 77-year resident of Mount Pleasant, Willard is a
highly esteemed member of his community; in honor of his 80th
birthday, his family and friends will join him on May 28, 2005, to
congratulate him and share in this milestone in his life; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby recognize Willard Lewis as a treasured
citizen of our state and extend to him best wishes on his 80th
birthday; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as a memento of this special day.
