SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1002
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize William Baker on the occasion of his retirement as Regional Supervisor from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on May 31, 2005, after more than 25 years of loyal service to the state; and WHEREAS, Bill Baker moved to Texas from New York and attended Sam Houston University in Huntsville; he began working as a correctional officer at the Ellis Unit of the state prison system in Huntsville on August 1, 1978; and WHEREAS, He relocated to Houston and was hired as a Parole Caseworker II with the Angleton Institutional Parole Office in January, 1980; he was promoted to Parole Officer I in January of 1981, and assigned to the Darrington Unit; he was subsequently promoted to Parole Examiner in December, 1981, Parole Analyst the next year, and Parole Supervisor on October 1, 1985; he was named Regional Supervisor of the Angleton Institutional Parole Office in December of 1992; and WHEREAS, Bill has been an integral part of the growth of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice; he was Parole Supervisor during the beginning of the Parole in Absentia program and during the opening of the Snyder, Amarillo, and Beeville Institutional Parole Offices, and he is known for his dedication and perseverance in completing a job; and WHEREAS, A talented and resourceful individual, Bill has handled his many responsibilities with exceptional efficiency and dedication; he is admired and respected by his colleagues, and his presence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby commend William Baker for his exceptional career and his many years of outstanding service to this state; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
