SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1032
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Alma Florence Yvette Rollerson-Twitty on the occasion of her birthday and for her many contributions to her church and her community; and WHEREAS, Alma was born October 26, 1921, in Medill, Texas; a longtime resident of Paris, Texas, she taught in the Lamar County School District for 37 years; she also tutored and served as a mentor to numerous boys and girls in the Paris after-school programs; and WHEREAS, Alma's extensive travels throughout the United States reflect her passionate interest in history; she has visited such landmarks as the Statue of Liberty and the Liberty Bell; and WHEREAS, A member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church for over 60 years, Alma participates in the citywide Outreach Mission Ministry, and she is an instructor in the Adult Women's Sunday School and the Grace Circle Missionary Society; and WHEREAS, Alma was married to the late Homer Twitty; she is the mother of three daughters, and she has seven grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Civic organizations play a large role in Alma's life, and Paris is a better place as a result of her involvement; she is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the West End Youth Fellowship for Zion District, the American Woodman Society, and the Retired Service Volunteer Personnel; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby commend Alma Florence Yvette Rollerson-Twitty for her many accomplishments and extend to her best wishes for the future and a happy 84th birthday; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
