SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1038
In Memory
of
Zachary A. Kolda
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Marine Corporal
Zachary A. Kolda, who died December 1, 2004, at the age of 23,
while serving his nation in Iraq; and
WHEREAS, Zachary Kolda grew up in Corpus Christi and
graduated from Richard King High School in 2000; a Marine
reservist stationed at Camp Mabry, he was a student at
The University of Texas at Austin majoring in international
business; he married Arleen Canales, his high school sweetheart,
on April 6, 2004; and
WHEREAS, In August, 2004, Zachary was deployed to Iraq as a
member of the 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, 4th Marine
Division, Marine Forces Reserve; a commander in one of the large
gun vehicles patrolling the Sunni Triangle, he lost his life in
Anbar province during enemy action; and
WHEREAS, Zachary will be fondly remembered as a
compassionate and inquisitive young man who loved to draw, could
make others laugh, and always lived his life with gusto; he firmly
believed in helping others, and he was deeply proud of his
military service in Iraq; and
WHEREAS, Zachary Kolda was a devoted husband and son, and
he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Zachary A. Kolda: his wife, Arleen Canales Kolda;
his parents, Patrick and Paula Kolda; and his other beloved
relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his
family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
Zachary Kolda.
