SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1048
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay tribute to William Earl "Blackie" Kines on the grand occasion of his 80th birthday; and WHEREAS, Blackie Kines was born in Kaufman on July 1, 1925, to M. L. "Moss" Lee and Bessie Keith Kines; he was the fifth of eight children born to the second-generation Texans, whose forebears immigrated from Germany and embraced the freedom they found in America; and WHEREAS, Blackie completed school in Quinlan; during World War II, he was a first responder at the air base in Terrell, where Royal Air Force pilots were trained at the British Flying Training School; and WHEREAS, He married Dorothy F. Harris on May 4, 1950, at the First Methodist Church of Greenville, and he has three children, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, He worked as a foreman for Metzgers' Dairy from 1946 through 1984, when the dairy closed; he then joined Arthur's Creamery as a foreman and retired in 1992; and WHEREAS, With his gentle strength and his warmhearted wisdom, he has been an exemplary role model for his children and their children, and he has encouraged them to challenge their fears and embrace their aspirations; and WHEREAS, Blackie Kines is an esteemed member of his community, and he is indeed worthy of legislative recognition as he reaches this important milestone in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby recognize William Earl "Blackie" Kines as a treasured citizen of the State of Texas and extend best wishes to him on his 80th birthday; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as a memento of this special day in his life.
