SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1063
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Ruben Bonilla, Jr., of Corpus Christi, for his many philanthropic and professional contributions to his community and state; and WHEREAS, An outstanding attorney and a highly respected community leader, Ruben is a partner in the law firm of Bonilla and Chapa, P.C.; he has served Corpus Christi through his dedication to an array of causes; and WHEREAS, Noticed at an early age for his potential and drive, Ruben was named one of the Rising Stars of Texas by Texas Business Magazine in 1980 and as one of Ten Outstanding Young Men in America by the United States Jaycees in 1982; and WHEREAS, During the course of his career, Ruben served as the national president of the League of United Latin American Citizens and as a member of the board of directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters and he was on the Red Cross board of governors; and WHEREAS, Ruben has continued to be an active leader in the civic life of his community; his present affiliations include membership in the World Affairs Council, in the Board of Governors of the United Way, and in the American GI Forum; and WHEREAS, Educational causes have always been a priority for Ruben; he has established numerous scholarships, including the McCord-Turberville Scholarship and the Gene Van Cleave Memorial Scholarship at W.B. Ray High School, and, at Del Mar College, the Ruben Bonilla, Sr., Memorial Scholarship and the Maria Bonilla Memorial Scholarship; and WHEREAS, A respected attorney and an exemplary citizen, Ruben Bonilla is dedicated to his profession and to his fellow man, and his accomplishments deserve legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby commend Ruben Bonilla, Jr., for his many achievements and for his service to our state and extend to him best wishes for the future.
