SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1064
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the achievements of the students of the Engineering and
Architecture Academy at Estacado High School in Lubbock; and
WHEREAS, One of several magnet programs at Estacado High
School, the Engineering and Architecture Academy works in
partnership with the Texas Tech University Center for
Engineering Outreach to encourage and prepare more students to
seek academic and professional careers in engineering; and
WHEREAS, The students of the Engineering and Architecture
Academy recently became the first high school team in the country
to build a solid fuel rocket that broke the sound barrier; named
Matador 1, their rocket flew to a height of more than 13,500 feet
and reached a speed of nearly 760 miles per hour after launching
on May 22; and
WHEREAS, Under the direction of Estacado High School
engineering teachers Greg Burnham and Lyn Bryant, this exemplary
program uses an engineering emphasis on problem solving,
teamwork, and project documentation to provide a context for
teaching critical thinking and communication skills; and
WHEREAS, MACH Rocket crew members Martin Adams, Jacinta Alvarez,
Jonathon Alvarez, Alex Armenta, Santiago Carrizales,
Arnulfo Davila, Evan Davis, Mikel Gatica, Robert Hinojosa,
Joshua Klemme, Keevin Pruitt, Mathew Rocha, team leader
Manuel Sanchez, and Oscar Walton, and CanSat crew members
Valentin Baca, Cayla Barrientos, Jamesha Bradley, Bridgette Ozuna,
and Keevin Pruitt, who is on both teams, and team leader
Amparo Garcia-Gomez can all be justifiably proud of their
outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend the students of the Engineering
and Architecture Academy at Estacado High School for their hard
work and accomplishments; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the students of the Engineering and Architecture Academy as an
expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
